It was Halloween, 1981. Most people didn’t know what HIV/AIDS stood for, let alone the scope of the public health tragedy that was unfolding. In Indianapolis, 70 men knew something needed to be done to raise money and awareness. The Bag Ladies were born. Possibly the first HIV/AIDS fund raising organization in the nation, the Bag Ladies have continued to raise money for a host local organizations over the years — and done it with irresistible theatricality and panache.
