Mayor Ballard was the unexpected star of the show at last night’s IndyFringe preview party. The mayor announced that the city of Indianapolis is kicking in $82,000 toward the renovation of IndyFringe’s theater building at 719 E. Saint Clair St. The news earned Ballard a spontaneous kiss on the cheek from IndyFringe’s executive director, Pauline Moffat.
The $82,000 contribution comes from the city’s parking meter fund and will be used to repair sidewalks, curbs and an alley around the theater. IndyFringe pegs the total budget for the project at $800,000, which includes the cost of purchasing the building.
The party featured more than 40 two-minute preview performances. IndyFringe kicks off this weekend in the Mass Ave Cultural District and runs until Aug. 28.
