Indiana’s feminist leaders will gather to strategize the impact the passage of the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) would have on American women’s lives and how to achieve that goal. The national president of the national Organization for Women, Terry O’Neill, will address Indiana feminists during the annual meeting of the Indiana National Organization for Women (Indiana NOW).
In 1977, the 100th Indiana General Assembly ratified the “Equal Rights Amendment” (ERA). Indiana NOW played an important role in championing the ratification in our state. Indiana was the 35th and last state to ratify the ERA. At the national level, the ERA did not succeed in getting three more state ratifications before the deadline in 1982. We only need three more states to ratify the ERA in order to attain the 38 states needed to pass this constitutional amendment.
