Art and a Movie: Cubism in Focus

IU Art Museum, 2:00-2:30 P.M. Nan Brewer compares a selection of Cubist prints by Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque and discusses some early photographic images of movement. IU Cinema, 3:00-4:30 P.M. Picasso and Braque Go to the Movies (2008) and Ballet méchanique (1923-24) Narrated and co-produced by acclaimed director and film historian Martin Scorsese, Picasso and Braque examines the connections between early motion pictures and the development of Cubism. Ballet méchanique, an early experimental art film by the Cubist Fernand Léger, will also be screened (81 min. total program, not rated).
