B'aktun 13

When: Fri., May 4, 6 p.m., Sat., May 5, 6 p.m. and Sun., May 6, 1 p.m. 2012

In B'aktun 13, a new play by the Portland-based troupe Teatro Milagro, three friends are swept up in an immigration raid and deported to Mexico, where they find that Mayan prophecies timed to the era of B'aktun 13 are indeed coming true. Ixchel, goddess of water and the Moon, and Ahpuch, god of death, initiate them into further mysteries, as December 21, 2012, which marks the end of the 5125-year B'aktun era, when life will change irrevocably, looms large. B'aktun 13 will be performed in a melange of English and Spanish; one actor might ask, “Como estas?” and another will answer, “I'm fine, thank you.” The play's weekend-long run is co-presented by the Phoenix Theatre and Miracle Theatre Group, the parent company of Teatro Milagro, which first premiered the play at the 2012 Fertile Ground Festival of new works in Portland.

Price: $15.
