At this year’s celebration of national Banned Books Week, once again local artists will reimagine the covers of banned or threatened literature and display their work at the Kurt Vonnegut Memorial Library – while Los Angeles-based performance artist Tim Youd lives 24/7 in its plate-glass window, in a “prison” of banned books. He will type banned works such as Fahrenheit 451. Other events: Tim’s Bedtime Stories – Local writers and celebrities will read to Youd from banned books (nightly). Gift shop sale – Receive discounts on selected merchandise and library memberships. Closing reception (Friday, September 26) Shortridge High School debate –High school students debate the issue of censorship (September 27). All events will be free to the public.
