A month of mead
In August, mead is celebrated as the oldest fermented beverage made with honey, water and yeast. Oliver Winery’s newly released collection features different types of mead, often called honey wine, with Camelot Mead, Black Cherry, Mango, Peach and Strawberry.
On August 10, Great Fermentations hosts a guided mead tasting from New Day Meadery. Bring your own fermented beverage to share from 5-7 pm. No cost.
Adding honey to a brew of malt, water yeast and hops creates honey beer. Rock Bottom is featuring Summer Honey Ale through Aug. 12.

“This dry-hopped wheat ale is somewhere between an American Pale Ale and a refreshing wheat ale. Pacific Northwest hops give a great citrus flavor and aroma, Canadian Winter Wheat adds a refreshing flavor and depth,” reports brewmaster Jerry Sutherlin.

All Scotty’s Brewhouse locations now are serving Thr3e Wise Men Beers. Newly “launched” are Thr3e Wise Men @Brewhouse Brown #AwesomeSauce and Thr3e Strikes Spitball IPA.
Oaken Barrel, Greenwood: new seasonal American Brown Ale has a less malty taste with hoppier finish than the traditional English Brown Ale.
“It is the first time we've brewed this beer and it is getting rave reviews from regular customers,” says owner Kwang Casey. “We have completed our brewery expansion and are brewing in full capacity. We welcome Sara Turner to our Oaken Barrel brewing team. Sara was an intern in our brewery for the last several months before officially joining the Brew Crew. She has shown great knowledge of beer and has learned the craft of brewing quickly. Maybe she will follow footsteps of our former brewer Tonya Cornett, who became the National Brewer of the Year in 2010.”
