Batch 1000 at 5 p.m. at Lennie's, 1795 E. 10th St.,
Bloomington. The much-anticipated debut of "Ole Floyd's Belgian Dark Strong
Ale," named in honor of Brewmaster Floyd Rosenbaum, provides
a "magical amber hue" and a "symphony of malts harmoniously blended with
Amber Belgian candy sugar" to create a unique malty sweetness balanced with
German Spalt, EKG and Tettanger
hops. Chef Fred Manion will offer select specials
created to perfectly pair with Ole Floyd's. Call 812-323-2112 to reserve or
just show up.
While in Bloomington, stop at Upland to see the newly installed 150 bbl fermentation tank. "Twice the size of our other tanks, KING KONG, and MOTHRA, we had nowhere left to go with this one besides GIGANTOR! Getting such a big tank into the brewery was no small feat. We had to remove a section of the roof and drop it in from above. GIGANTOR is taller than the brewery itself, so its specially insulated crown actually sticks out of the roof," reports Upland's Charles Stanley.
Reserved bottles of Upland's 2010 edition of sour ales are available for pick up in the Bloomington Tap Room until Dec. 22. NUVO can report "dantalion dark wild ale" delivers a mouth-cleansing crispness to prepare you for feasting on your choice of food and other craft brews. "Strawberry Lambic" is deliciously satisfying with dessert of sweets, cheese and fresh fruit. Whole strawberries from Huber Orchards in Starlight, Indiana, provide the "enticing aromas and flavors" while fermentation by wild yeasts and aging in oak casks creates complexity. Zesty, refreshing carbonation comes through bottle conditioning. Each bottle shares good servings for 3-5 people.
