Changes

Mishawaka Brewing Company, Indiana's 2nd oldest brewpub (1992), closed its brewery as of April 19, 2011. The Pub at 408 W. Cleveland Rd., Mishawaka, [tel. 574-273-5397] continues to be run by the Schmidt family. During a telephone call to The Pub on April 29, NUVO was assured all Indiana craft brews will continue to be served. For those wanting a last taste of Mishawaka's classic lineup, six will be on tap until they run out over the next few weeks.

On tap

Crown Brewing, spring seasonal "AlcoholikA," a deep, gold-colored German Style Blonde Doppelbock. Its pleasant, rich, malty-sweet character comes through in the finish. It is full-bodied and smooth with a balance of peppery hop bitterness released in three versions. NUVO stopped by to taste the barrel-aging version -- it was lovely.

Barley Island, Broad Ripple and Noblesville, 80 Shilling Scotch Ale has a sweet malty flavor with a peaty finish. Kegs for home keg systems available only in Noblesville.

New Albanian Brewing Company, Abzug Dunkel brewed with dark malt is a new variant on their popular Abzug Central European Cellarman's Beer.

Congratulations

Jared Williamson has been promoted to the new position of NABC Brewmaster.
