Best Local Place to Volunteer

The Humane Society of Indianapolis

Foster care for pets. Service projects. Manning the shelter. Why? Because PUPPIES AND KITTENS, that’s why. (And terrific older critters needing homes, too.) There are volunteer programs designed for kids as young as 10, programs built specifically for high school students, even programs made to help scouts achieve their desired goals. Add the insanely popular Mutt Strut event — in which humans and their canine pals get to stroll around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway — and you’ve got a group that allows animal lovers to help ‘em out in more ways than you can count.
