When: Saturdays, 9 a.m.-12 p.m. Continues through April 21 2012
To help bring back the knowledge and craftsmanship of an earlier era, the Indiana State Museum is partnering with boat building craftsman Doug Jones to offer a unique experience. Doug has been building boats using traditional methods since the 1950s and has helped build boats with the Alexandria Seaport Foundation and has been leading classes at Eagle Creek Park. Now he’s bringing his skills to the Indiana State Museum to help people discover how boat building was done without the use of power tools. This workshop is open to any adult and no prior knowledge of boat building, carpentry, or using tools is required. Your tuition will include tools, building materials, and Doug’s expert advice. The eight week course will allow you to: discover Indiana’s small boat building history, use traditional hand tools, understand boat design and construction, and build a working craft with fellow crew members.
Price: $300.00 per person for the workshop (12 people max.)
