Well, the training wheels are off and The Dojo is cruising to success at it’s new location at 22nd and College. The once-embattled venue has settled nicely in mid-town. While the first few shows came in at a trickle, the schedule is now a deluge of local and touring punk, hardcore and indie rock bands.
A glance at the schedule today shows several shows booked for every week. While all the shows are worth checking out on some level, there are a few that really stand out. On Friday, September 24, local hard-rockers CMNDR (following the current punk-rock trend of all-caps-no-vowels band names) will be rocking the Dojo along with high school wüderkindern The Young Minds. TYM mix the driving indie rock of The Cure and Arcade Fire with the pop chaos of Dresden Dolls or even Bomb The Music Industry!
The following Monday (Sept. 27), hype-hardcore fans can rejoice for the triumphant return of American Cheeseburger. The hardcore knuckleheads in AC will bring their brand of minute-long scream-a-longs to the Dojo with local hoodlums Mislead Youth.
- The Copyrights: Packed Moria with sweaty punks in 2009. Can they do the same at The Dojo?
Thursday, Sept. 30 will see the triumphant return of The Copyrights to the Circle City. Sure, the band played a handful of shows at the E.S. Jungle but those don't count. The show at the Dojo will be insanely epic. Not only will the Copyrights play, but self-loathing pop-punk act Like Bats will support them alongside local pop-punk fanboys It’s All Happening.
Whew! That’s just one week at the Dojo. With shows this good, the venue should draw enough people to make enough money to buy some fans or an AC unit. Because without some cool air, the Dojo is the most happenin’ sauna in the world...
