Lt. Gov. Sue Ellspermann will resign early next month as Eric Holcomb prepares to step in.

Gov. Mike Pence’s office confirmed Ellspermann’s resignation will be effective on March 2 at 5 p.m. The confirmation process for Holcomb is scheduled for the next day.

Pence previously denied policy disagreements with Ellspermann were behind the administration shake-up. Instead, Ellspermann said she has applied for the job of president at Ivy Tech Community College and is going through the interview process with the Board of Trustees.

Republicans seem ready to accept former Indiana Republican Party Chairman Holcomb.

“I don’t know if it is going to be a topic of long debate on the floor of our Democratic colleagues,” said House Speaker Brian Bosma Thursday. “I’m sure it will have all the Republican votes without any rancor about it.”

Holcomb had been running for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Republican U.S. Sen. Dan Coats, before dropping out of the race to become Pence’s running mate for the 2016 ticket.
