When: Nov. 7-9, 6:30-8:30 p.m., Nov. 14-16, 6:30-8:30 p.m. and Nov. 21-Aug. 23, 6:30-8:30 p.m. 2013
Join other fugitive slaves along the Underground Railroad as you flee from captivity with hope in all your hearts. Appreciate the encouragement of a Quaker family willing to help and provide shelter. Learn the hard way how and where to hide, who to trust and who to avoid. And feel the terror as slave hunters follow your tracks – and track you down. Find out how you would react by coming to Conner Prairie Interactive History Park, Indiana’s only Smithsonian Affiliate, to participate in the award-winning, nationally acclaimed Follow the North Star program. The program provides an immersive, real-life encounter of what it was like to be a fugitive slave in one of Indiana’s most compelling periods of history.
Please note: Follow the North Star is not for everyone. Participants must be 12 years and older due to the nature of the experience. Participants will be treated as slaves – they will be spoken to harshly and won’t be allowed to speak up or make eye contact with others. The intense experience will have an emotional impact on everyone, but each will walk away with their own lessons learned. Participants must dress appropriately to walk approximately a mile on rough, sometimes dirty terrain, at night and in cold weather. The event will take place even if it rains or snows – harsh weather conditions would not stop a slave on mission for a better life. If there is severe weather the event will be cancelled.
Start times are staggered every 15 minutes throughout the evening and programs last 90 minutes.
Price: Conner Prairie members $17, non-members $20.
