Francesco Solimena: Picturing the World for an Eighteenth-Century Royal Wedding

Francesco Solimena’s The Allegory of the Four Parts of the World is a masterpiece of eighteenth-century Neapolitan painting, commemorating the wedding of Charles III of the House of Bourbon to Maria Amalia of Saxony. This exhibition explores the celebrations that occurred for the royal wedding. Accompanying the exhibition, a documentary, The World around Solimena, filmed in Naples, leads us inside the Royal Palace, to give us a sense of the original context in which Solimena’s painting was created. Tuesday - Saturday, 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Sunday, noon - 5:00 p.m.
