Fringe Review: Before Tomorrow

Firefall Dance Theatre, Indianapolis

1 star

Theatre on the Square: Main Stage. Director/choreographer Stephanie Riner interviewed the eight dancers in this cast about their dreams and struggles. Excerpts from those interviews form the basis for this show's sound design and choreography. The result has the feel of sincere students presenting a class project. The sound design (which also uses movie-style instrumental music) is over-amped and choppy; the choreography is often a literal acting-out of what's said on tape and, in places, results in wobbly traffic on stage. An artist, stage right, painting along with the performance, is a distraction.
