You might remember 5-year-old Zara Schwer and her family from a February article about their difficult and heartbreaking situation. Zara was diagnosed with a rare brain tumor in 2013 and has been in treatment since at St. Jude Children's Hospital.
She has amazed doctors with her uncommonly fast recovery time from surgery, and she amazed all of us with her happy-go-lucky child attitude in the face of her illness. Zara's optimism is an inspiration to all, in the February article this was clear: "Tomorrow is special," she said. Perhaps because of this, St. Jude made her the poster child for their marketing campaign so she can inspire people to donate.
Though Zara is on the road to recovery, her family is in dire financial straits from the flood of medical bills. Though more than $11,000 was donated to Zara's online donation campaign, the family is having a tough time with daily expenses more than $70,000 in medical bills loom. This gala will support the family in this time of need and let them know that the community is behind them. The gala will include dinner, live music and a silent auction, with all proceeds going to the Schwer family.
Price: $20 per adult, $10 for children 13 and under
