Evolution is a funny and thought-provoking show that undertakes themes of sexuality, identity, fear, and their relation to one another. Evolution is performed by Roman Rimer, an openly transgender New Yorker who traveled through the Southern U.S. to do community organizing with LGBTQ youth. All experiences in the show are based on actual events.
How will I be treated by others simply because of the body I’m in? That’s the question Roman Rimer attempts to untangle in an alternately humorous and serious performance. He chronicles his experience as an openly transgender New Yorker who spent months touring Southern colleges to organize and assist LGBTQ youth. Wearing simple sweats and a white t- shirt, Rimer shares intimate details about himself, doing so in a disarming and endearing manner. His performance touches on such issues as identity, classism and religion, and it concludes with a message that resonates: we’re all much more alike than we realize. - Matt McClure
