International Women's Day Celebration

When: Thu., March 8, 6:30 p.m. 2012

The catered opening reception, with international hors d’oeuvres, will begin at 6:30 p.m. If possible, try to arrive around 6:30 for conversation and some good eats. Women’s organizations and activist groups will be on hand to talk about the work in our community. At 7 p.m., our featured performers will present their work. Don't miss this year’s lineup! Bellydancing by Judy, hosted by Judy Hanna, will again be appearing, as will Jing Wang's t'ai chi group; performance poet Tiffany Kyser; Leila Peters, author of a collection of essays on longterm lesbian relationships; and Kimberly Renith-Joy Licorish, a Barbadian-American poet. After the featured performers, there will be another 20-minute break, and the multicultural, multilingual open mic will begin at 8:20. Let’s see how many languages we can represent! There are only about fourteen slots left for the open mic, so please email Chad Redden (credden@iupui.edu) if you want to be put on the list. To keep the open mic portion of our program to an hour, readers are asked to restrict themselves to one page of poetry or a half page of prose. Those reading in languages other than English are asked to bring a translation as well.
