Early this morning, My Old Kentucky Blog made their biggest concert announcement to date: MGMT will headline The Vogue on Monday June 14th.
MGMT consists of multi-instrumentalists Andrew VanWyngarden (vocals, guitar, keyboards, drums) and Ben Goldwasser (vocals, keyboards, synths, drums). The Brooklyn-based band is known for the creation of outrageously psychedelic music and visually stimulating live shows.
At Bonnaroo 2009, MGMT put on a show that was best described by SPIN Magazine as an “intergalactic carnival”. “Sorry, Mr. Springsteen and Mr. Anastasio: MGMT were headlining Bonnaroo — and everybody knew it,” wrote William Goodman a week after one of the nation’s largest annual music festivals. Having had the privilege of attending that same set, I can confirm that the show lived up to the hype that circulated it for months to come.
MGMT is currently on the road in support of their latest release, Congratulations. The album officially hits stores on April 13th, but is available for streaming right now on the band’s website.
Tickets ($28) go on sale at 10 a.m. on Friday April 9th. If planning to attend, be sure to purchase your ticket early. As noted on My Old Kentucky Blog’s website, this is the smallest club show on the entire tour and it WILL sell out.
