Need some free Americana/alt-country music? Sure you do. I have a couple stellar offerings to make you happy.

David Lowery (Cracker and Camper Van Beethoven) has a debut solo album coming February 1, and you can get the first single from The Palace Guards from his website.

"After 27 years I have decided it is time for a solo album. This is not the end of Cracker or Camper Van Beethoven," he writes on his website. "I will continue recording and playing with both bands. When I say 'Solo Record', I should qualify this statemen: This record was very much a group effort. Although many people played on this record, it is largely the work of the staff of Sound of Music Studios. In particular John Morand (engineer, producer, percussion, programming, drums), Alan Weatherhead (lead guitar, banjo, pedal steel. keyboards, engineer, producer) and Miguel Urbiztondo-Rodrigues (drums and percussion). Without these key collaborators this album would not exist."

Outlaw country rocker Shooter Jennings has a free download for an entire album called Missed The Boat: A Collection of Demos and Rarities. The 15-track album has ten years of demos, remixes and live recordings, including a version of "Theme from the Dukes of Hazzard", remaking a song that surely gave the latter stage of his daddy's career some high visibility.
