News: Murder by numbers - still counting

My news feature in NUVO this week focused on the increasing number of murders in Indianapolis.

When we published on Wednesday, there had been 112 murders so far in 2008 -- just three shy of the 115 murders last year and 8 shy of the record 120 murders in 1998.

Since Wednesday, IMPD has reported two more homicides.

113. Black male killed while sitting in his car in the 22nd and College area. Police have not yet released the identity of the victim, but say he is approx. 30 years old.

114. Johnnie Conner, owner of Johnnie's Glasses and Frames, was found dead in his near-Eastside business on E. New York St. on Thursday, Dec. 11. Conner, also a Black male, was 73 years-old and reportedly killed by a single gunshot.
