Participants in this season's YouthBuild Indy initiative launched the construction-rehabilitation portion of the program last week, as local business, community and political leaders lent their support and applause.
The program focuses on building and reforming lives, by infusing struggling, under-privileged youth with education and sustainable job skills and goals.
The 34 participants in the selective, 36-week program will restore an old home while earning their GEDs. Participants can also receive internationally recognized certification for construction work once the program is finished.
Mayor Greg Ballard and Congressman Andre Carson spoke at the event, encouraging and congratulating the participants for making it this far. Follow NUVO's photo slideshow, below, for images from the event, and for more about the program and its participants.
