Ravens cut Rice

The Ravens are done with Ray Rice.

The announcement on the Baltimore NFL team's website is curt, simply stating that, "The Ravens terminated the contract of running back Ray Rice on Monday afternoon."

Rice was suspended for two games by the NFL after video surfaced of the running back dragging his then-fiancee (now wife) out of an elevator in Atlantic City. That video, it turns out, shows the aftermath of the act that's going to put a serious dent in an abuser's career. TMZ has released a video of Rice that appears to show the asshole alleged criminal knocking Janay Palmer out cold in the since-shuttered Revel Hotel. (You can go find the link yourself if you don't believe us.) Commissioner Roger Goodell, caving to Every Right-Thinking Human on Earth, has upped the league's penalty for domestic abuse to six games for a first offense and a lifetime ban for second offenders after receiving criticism for the ridiculous slap on the wrist he handed Rice.

The Sports Network (via 1070 The Fan) reports hat the NFL had not seen the video until TMZ put the thing up online.

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said in a statement Monday that the league did not have prior access to this video.

"We requested from law enforcement any and all information about the incident, including the video from inside the elevator," Aiello said. "That video was not made available to us and no one in our office has seen it until today."

There's perhaps some evidence to the contrary here.

Colts' defensive stalwart Robert Mathis is serving a four-game suspension for testing positive for a banned substance, in his case, a goddamn fertility drug.

Ravens' head coach John Harbaugh will address the media at 8 p.m. tonight.

The NFL has also suspended Rice as of around 2:30 this afternoon.
