- Marisa Rivera as Velma Kelly.
B&B’s Fosse-tastic production of Chicago, running through Oct. 7, mesmerizes and delights on every level, with impeccable costuming makeup, lighting, sound, orchestra, set, staging and choreography supplemented by an excellent cast. Its a play that starts off sultry and progresses into sizzles and steam, with its mixture of “shtick 'n schlock,’ vaudeville and circus, poetry and politics.
Deb Wims worms her way into your face as Roxie Hart, whlle Marisa Rivera pouts Velma Kelly to perfection. Billy Flynn snakes Curt Dale Clark with shady sheddings. Alene Robertson milks a brassy “Mama.” Eddy Curry’s wide-eyed innocence inoculates Amos Hart with pathos. M.J. Austin celebrates Mary Sunshine with sleight-of-hand.
The rest of the cast is just as wonderful wrapping Fosse’s choreography around their souls. Buddy Reeder's homage to Fosse is exemplary. Marc Robin directed with flawless attention to detail and the big picture. Through Oct. 7 at Beef & Boards
