2.5 stars

GHDT presents a modern interpretation of The Nutcracker. Casting Klara as a homeless orphan in search of parents and the Nutcracker and Sugar Plum Fairy as a new family for the sad little girl, GHDT molds their Nutcracker into an allegory about the true meaning of Christmas.

This performance showcases the work of young dancers in the GHDT Academy, dancing with exuberance. Tiniest dancers Audrey Holloway and Amelia Meyer as unicorns steal the show with Christmas cuteness. Choreographers Gregory Hancock, Dawn Deahl and Shari Washington are savvy in sprinkling solos from professional members of the company throughout, to reveal the caliber of dancing to which these students aspire. With a smattering of shutter clicks during various scenes, proud parents make for a lively audience.
