Since November, Eagles of Death Metal have been irrevocably been linked with the terrorist attacks in Paris. As months passed, they’ve also become associated with some controversial remarks by leader Jesse Hughes, which recently resulted in the cancellation of appearances at two French festivals.
None of that was mentioned apart from a brief and sincere acknowledgement of the support they’ve received over the past six months. Instead, they focused on delivering a night of sweaty rock and roll, looking like a band injected with newfound fire.
Nashville-based Thelma and The Sleaze opened the show with their low brow, high-energy brand of southern rock, with songs like “These Boots Won’t Lick Themselves” and an unhealthy number of references to biscuits and gravy.
