Indianapolis Power & Light Co. aims to install more than 30 new solar power facilities. The expansion, which the company said total a $300 million direct investment in Indy, would bring IPL's solar capacity to 100 megawatts, or about 3 percent of its 3,353 MW production capacity. The Indianapolis International Airport will host the largest installation, which will feature two 10 MW arrays. The Indianapolis Motor Speedway also plans to feed the grid with a 9.6 MW solar farm just north of the track. IPL's proposed expansion is currently under regulatory review. The solar installations with build on the renewable energy portfolio the company began with a series of wind power projects, which generate an estimated 311 MW for IPL. IPL currently ranks 8th in the U.S. for available wind-capacity on a per-customer basis, according to IPL President and Chief Executive Ken Zagzebski.
