Sophistafunk Performs at the Mousetrap

When: Tue., March 20, 10 p.m. 2012

Sophistafunk is a live hip-hop and funk band known for thick syncopated rhythms and positively charged lyrics. The band plays "party funk" and conscious hip-hop combined with spoken-word artistry, old-school hip hop, and funky rhythms to create a unique live band experience. Keyboard player Adam Gold and drummer Emanuel Washington met in 2007 while sitting in with a local Syracuse band. After a few weeks, the two decided to get together and jam, a friend was invited to join in and he brought vocalist and lyricist Jack Brown to the first session. Their mutual friend moved to Staten Island but Jack stayed and the Sophistafunk trio was born. Adam has a jazz and funk background, Emanuel has a gospel and R&B background, and Jack has a spoken-word and poetry background. Together, they create one hell of a good time and some of the funkiest grooves found on any stage in the country.
