Spirit & Place's $20k 'Race' project finalists

Spirit & Place announced yesterday the four finalists for its "$20K: A Competition about Race," selected from among proposals for "reshaping notions of race in Central Indiana" submitted during a public call-out process that closed Oct. 1. The winner, selected by a combination of audience and judges' votes during an idea-pitching event, will receive $20,000 to realize his or her idea. The event, opening this year's "risk"-themed Spirit & Place, takes place Nov. 1, 7-9 p.m., at The Toby at the Indianapolis Museum of Art; tickets are $10.

Project Title: Race: A Look Inside

DeShong Perry-Smitherman - A Girl's Gift, Inc.
Project Title: My Mentor, My Self

Danicia Malone - Indianapolis Neighborhood Resource Center
Project Title: The Lost Race

Pete Hylton - IUPUI School of Engineering & Technology, Motorsports Engineering Program
Project Title: A Competition About Race Using Racing
