When: Mon., Aug. 29, 8 p.m. 2011
Butler Theatre and Heartland Actors’ Repertory Theatre (HART) present a free performance of The Exonerated at 8 p.m. Aug. 29 in Lilly Hall Studio Theatre 168. The Exonerated uses actual words of individuals who were found innocent after years of awaiting execution on death row to shed light and inspire conversation on one of the gravest and darkest possible topics: the power of our government to punish by death. The Exonerated is presented in conjunction with the 7 p.m. talk on Sept. 6 in Butler’s Reilly Room by Sister Helen Prejean, author of Dead Man Walking. She will discuss her life’s work as an eyewitness to the death penalty in the United States and how she came to discern her calling as an activist against capital punishment.
