"This is an introductory class for those interested in keeping a small flock of chickens! You can keep chickens for several reasons - eggs, entertainment, free fertilizer, and eating all of the bugs out of your garden. Whether you want to raise day-old chicks, or purchase older gals who are just starting to lay eggs, this class will cover everything you need to know to get started: food, shelter & water requirements, Marion County's rules, predator issues, sanitation, eggs, heritage breeds & breeds that are hardy in our region, how to raise babies, pros & cons of Roosters, common illnesses, broodiness, where to buy chicks or pullets, where to source feed & other supplies, local vets, local "support" groups & more! I will also be bringing a few of our gals along as "educational" chickens so you can meet some of our ladies!"
