Two house concerts in Indy this weekend

Fans of acoustic music will have the opportunity to catch a double dose of live performances this weekend in a rare, intimate setting. The occupants of two music-loving Indianapolis households will once again open their doors to fantastic local talent and the people who support it. If you’ve never attended a concert in someone’s living room, this weekend is your chance to experience one of the most personal live shows you may ever see.

The newest house concert series in town, IndyWest, will present a Saturday afternoon matinee featuring singer/songwriters Joe Peters and Linda Hicks. The concert series premiered in July with Nashville-based guitarist Brian Ashley Jones. John and Cathy Casey, organizers and hosts of IndyWest, showed great hospitality to their guests and displayed a genuine love for live acoustic music; it is no surprise that they’re doing it all again. The Casey’s are eager to entertain the nostalgic, heartwarming sounds of Joe Peters in their home.

The Redbud Tree House Concert Series, now hosted by Cyndi Wagner and running strong in its 5th year of fall and winter events, is excited to host Bloomington resident Jason Wilber. Wilber has gained notoriety playing lead guitar for notable artists such as Hal Ketchum, Greg Brown, Iris DeMent, Todd Snider, Greg Trooper, and Carrie Newcomer. Solo, he melds country, rock, and folk to create true Americana music. From Carnegie Hall to Red Rocks to Massey Hall and the London Palladium, he’s performed in all 50 States, and all over Canada, Europe, and the UK. This Sunday, however, you can catch him right here in Indianapolis inside Cyndi’s cozy living room. And if it’s chilly enough, she may even have the fireplace burning for her guests as they congregate in her kitchen and dining room prior to the show and during intermission.

Both events are free to attend, but operate on the honor system and ask that you consider the suggested donation of $10-$15; 100% of donations go directly to the performers.

Both events also label themselves as optional pitch-ins and suggest bringing a dish or favorite drink to contribute. Bottled water is provided but guests are encouraged to bring their own beer, wine, or soda.
