Weekend live comedy preview

My last few comedy previews have been more informative than encouraging, as Crackers had a drought of relatively obscure comedians for the last month or so. Spring training is finally over, and it’s time to play ball.

You’d be hard-pressed to find a more consistent and accessible mainstream comedian than Kevin Pollak. It seems like he is at Crackers once every few months, and though he was named one of Comedy Central’s “Top 100 Comedians of all time,” he still plays intimate venues without the inflated ticket price of Ticketdisaster service charges.

If the name but not the face sounds familiar, he has been in about 49 million movies, most famously “A Few Good Men,” and “The Usual Suspects.” Less famously, he starred in “The Santa Clause 3” and (not making this up) a 1988 Star Wars spin-off “Ewoks: The Battle for Endor.”

He is the safest bet for a guaranteed night of good, professional stand-up comedy you are likely to ever find. That’s not to say he’s the best or even in my personal top 100, but you can’t really go wrong with him, regardless of your specific taste; he has a very broad mainstream appeal, though that comes at the expense of any kind of life-changing experience. He knows what he’s doing and gets invited back to Crackers time after time for a good reason.

More than most forms of entertainment, stand-up comedy lineups are subject to last-minute changes, as well as unexpected sell-outs. Please be sure to check the website of the venue (or call and reserve tickets) before heading out, and make sure to be aware of any updated times, prices, availability or performers.

If you are aware of any upcoming events or venues that are not included here, please feel free to comment them below or email aroberts@nuvo.net!
