Aussie comedian Jim Short visits Broad Ripple this weekend, as both Crackers locations, Morty's and the Funny Bone all play host to a young lineup.

There are not any seasoned veterans in town, but that makes for a good change of pace; the young adult crowd has a wide range of servicable options.

Kenny Smith (the white comedian, not the black basketball player) is at Crackers Downtown, Kevin Shea is at Morty's and Dan Cummins (of "Last Comic Standing" fame) is at the Funny Bone in Bloomington. All of them have charismatic youth on their side, and will likely steer clear of the "wife and kids" humor that seems to be all too common in this town. Not that there's anything wrong with those jokes, but it's good to see some fresh faces.

ComedySportz has its first $5 Improv Jam in over a month, now that $3 Bill's run of "Pre-Existing Conditions" is complete. The $5 Improv Jam is the Friday late-night dirty show hosted on Mass Ave, where the performers are allowed to say naughty woords such as "butt" and "booger" without being brown-bagged (I jest— it can be much bolder and raunchier than their normal shows).

ComedySportz's scrappy competitor, IndyPROV, is also hosting a show this weekend at White Rabbit Cabaret in Fountain Square, on Saturday night. It sincerely pains me to talk down about a local comedy troupe that's just trying to get out there and perform for people, but my experience with IndyPROV was not an enjoyable one— and unfortunately I have not heard a contradictory opinion.

Hopefully as they continue to get experience and grow as a troupe they will improve; it would be great for the local comedy scene for them to do well.
