  • Moshe Kasher brings his raunchily clever routine to Crackers Downtown this weekend

Moshe Kasher will be at the Crackers Downtown stage this weekend, which is especially good news to the educated under-40 aficionados of "indie" comedy. If Kasher was a musician, he would be Ryan Adams; a comedian obscure enough to feel genuine and personable, but talented enough to be slightly snooty and get away with it.

Kasher is a bright young hipster with a powerful voice and accessible wit— you probably will feel like you've had a class or two with someone like him in college. He was the guy wearing girl jeans and button-down sweaters and looking like the lead singer of Weezer, as he explained to everyone why he appreciated Radiohead on a totally different level than the rest of the world. But that vaguely condescending demeanor adds to his comedic value; his smart jokes are tongue-in-cheek, in that they are truly poking fun at himself in the subtext.

His voice is strong and engaging, and he successfully manages to be both raunchy and clever at the same time.

A few blocks northeast, ComedySportz will be continuing their run of "Oz: Unscripted," Friday night at 10. The city's only other established improv troupe IndyPROV will be competing with Oz by putting on a free show at Talbott Street on Friday only.

We're not even out of June yet, but it's not too early to plug one of the great comedians of my generation coming 'round in a couple months; Brian Posehn will be at the Funny Bone in Bloomington on August 26-28.
