As the second of six kids, it's always fascinating to me to see the dynamic between brothers in show business. Especially when the younger brother out-performs the older one— in my family that dynamic is usually cause for a much rougher family Thanksgiving football game. We take out our frustrations on the field, for the sake of my mother's sanity at dinner time.

Whoever the high-achiever is, there's always going to be excuses from the other. The difference is that when the older brother loses, he gets away with his excuses. When the younger brother loses, it's because he's weak and he sucks.

You can't tell me that it wouldn't have messed with Eli Manning's head if he was the one diagnosed with a career-ending spine injury instead of the oldest Manning, Cooper. But when it happens to the oldest one, it somehow seems more tragic— and if it happens to the youngest one, it's just nature taking its course.

Dennis Regan is performing with the great Stewart Huff at Crackers Downtown this weekend, which leads me to believe that he might be as good or better than his younger and more successful brother Brian Regan. I've written at great length about my affinity for Huff, so it's hard to imagine that Crackers would stuff him in as an opening act for a leach, mooching off of his younger brother's success.

However, if Dennis is getting a free ride on Brian's success, there will surely be comedic value in that as well. And if not that, Freudian value, for the middle child in us all.
