The one good thing about the Brian Regan show in town this weekend is that it gives me a good excuse to use my favorite catch phrase of the last three years:

"In THIS Economy?!"

Don't get me wrong, Brian Regan is good. But he's not Richard Pryor, who is just about the only comedian I would pay $56 plus another $20,000 in TicketMaster fees for. You could probably buy the rights to his Comedy Central special for as much as a floor ticket.

He takes the stage at the Murat on Saturday, and the cheapest tickets available are obscenely priced. Regan has some very quotable and relatable material, but his jokes are also sometimes very basic and redundant. About thirty minutes into his act I often find myself completely zoning out, or just generally annoyed with his voice. And at the distance you'll be from the stage for even the "cheap" tickets, you could buy his entire collection and have enough left for a two-dollar meal-deal from Taco Bell.

His marketing people know his audience much better than me and I'm sure someone will pay for those seats (they go for as much as $97), but for that price you could buy tickets to Bob Dylan the following weekend, the Yankees' American League Championship game tomorrow, or half of a ticket to Wicked in December.
